S A M P O : the deleted scenes! |

We are delighted to offer the following rare screen captures from SAMPO, featuring scenes deleted from the English-Language version. Taken from an obscure German release of the film, these images show some extraordinary footage that never made it to the U.S. film THE DAY THE EARTH FROZE. Our thanks go to Raymond Tucker for securing and sharing these rare images, which he annotates as follows:
"#'s 1-4 are of Anniki in her cell and Lemminkainen as he finds her lock of hair and has his vision of her captivity. #5 shows Lemminkainen with the broth of toads (one is jumping from the stein!) #'s 6-7, as he stands in awe of the Sampo (he says something like "The Sampo should be in the hands of good men rather than bad") #'s 8-11 show Loehi and her Wizard plotting to sting Lemminkainen with a tiny poisonous snake. #'s 12-16 show some of the great distorted and spinning shots as Lemminkainen as he feels the effects of the snake bite. #'s 17-20 are of Lemminkainen's mother walking on the water, #'s 21-23 are her confronting Loehi, #'s 24-28 show her asking the sea to return his body, and #'s 29-32 show her carrying him to the mainland. The final frame captures show her being assisted by the road, the birch tree and the sun in reviving Lemminkainen." |
